NGC 2237 Rosette Nebula

Description

The Rosette Nebula, also known as Caldwell 49, is an H II region situated near one end of a giant molecular cloud in the Monoceros region of the Milky Way Galaxy. It is closely associated with the open cluster Caldwell 50, as the stars in this cluster were formed from the nebula’s material.

The nebula has a shape that resembles a human skull, which is why it is sometimes referred to as the “Skull Nebula.” However, it should not be confused with another object that also bears the nickname “Skull Nebula.
